During the infancy of civilization, mankind was bombardedwith constant adversity, harsh living conditions and an early demise. Humanswere starting to reason, to think and to figure everything out. It wasnecessary, it was crucial for his survival.

Most questions of the day were answered to some degree oranother; but there were others that could not be explained…be it naturalphenomena or cataclysms or just plain misfortune. In order to reconcile hiscondition as a thinker man then began to think in abstract terms and to applyimaginary explanations to those things he could not understand or explain.

We are still at that place today simply because nobody cananswer with certainty where we come from, where we are going and who made allthis. Our limited intelligence does not reach that far and thus we continue toapply imaginary solutions to problems and questions that have no answers.

Whenmankind first began to think in these terms he also began to worship. The mostobvious object of worship was the sun because it was a constant, it gave lightand life and thus men worshiped the SUN GOD. The sun has been revered as thesource of light, effulgence and energy and as the sustainer of life on earthfor millennia. Though sun worship was common in many countries and cultures, itdisappeared with the worldwide spread of Christianity and Islam. However, itremains alive in Turkey, Iran, Britain and many Asian countries in the form ofarchitectural wonders like temples and sacred sites. In India, sun worship is anintegral part of religious rituals for millions of devotees even today…

The Greek god Zeus

Astime passed mankind was not satisfied with just one Deity and began to inventall kinds of imaginary supernatural beings capable of imparting chaos as wellas fortune. The Greeks took the cake in the number of deities; while theEgyptians before them oscillated between multiple gods and a monotheisticsituation.

In other lands to the East the business of religion took asimilar path: a variety and abundant amount of deities. But all the same, theytoo are based on imaginary, fabricated fables and far-fetched feats of mightand supernatural powers.

Asthe Europeans expanded into the new world they also encountered “pagans”worshiping anything and everything from eagles to thunder, from waterfalls tocaves. The Europeans also captured and enslaved great numbers of people, mostlyfrom Africa and these managed somehow to escape the tyrannical imposition ofthe Christian religion upon them. They brought with them their language, traditionsand yes, their gods. Some still thrive in places like Cuba as SANTERIA orBrazil as Candomblé. Even New Orleans has its share of the vestiges of theseAfrican roots. Places like Haiti live and breathe VOODOO.

TheWestern cultures embraced and promoted the philosophy and ideology of oneso-called “prophet” and then they welcomed THE SON OF GOD himself in the fleshof Jesus Christ. That is how the story goes. But let’s be careful about thisbecause there are many variations of the worship of that messenger supposedlysent by God as his one and only son to SAVE humanity of its ills and misery.

The idolatry then took on a different shade…it evolved intothe adoration of a dying man, a tortured, bloodied and agonizing man crucifiedon a wooden cross. It is pathetic, it is morbid and it is downright sick of oursociety to adopt such a practice. The Christian religion does this very wellbecause an agonizing Christ brings the feelings of compassion and empathy fromthe followers of these religions; and that also explains “THE GUILT TRIP” thatwe have collectively for subjecting the son of God to a horrible death.

In the more than 2,000 year history of Christianity, we haveseen the power and the control of the church wane. There were the good old dayswhen they dominated everything, every aspect of human life including the headsof government that oftentimes were the same as the church’s hierarchy. Those inthe positions of power enjoyed a relatively lofty and luxurious life style.They were beyond reproach or criticism and got away with murder…literally.

It is not surprising then that the religions of today arewaging an all out war to win the hearts and souls of the American people andothers in foreign lands; their very survival depends on how well they canaccomplish this and how many ignorant, superstitious people they can con intotheir religious organizations so that those at the helm can continue to livewell at the expense of the masses.

Look, I will defend your right to believe or not tobelieve…even with my life, which is something they will not do for me. Ibelieve in the freedom of religion and the freedom from religion, but I alsobelieve in the separation of church and state. I care not if you worship littlegreen unicorns from Tasmania and you hang from the chandelier to do so…butleave me the hell alone and stop making laws that take away my rights…also…ifyou insist in being involved in politics, then you should lose your tax exemptstatus…you should lose it anyhow and pay taxes for a very profitable businessthat religion is…not unlike a movie theater and they have to pay taxes and areentertainment just the same.

Jesus did not speak out against the government, but asked that we leavegovernmental laws and rules here on Earth, and obey them. At the sametime, we should consider spiritual things to be sacred and give God what hewants from us.

3. Neither God, nor the Bible, tells anyone that God wants anything fromus but love.
John 13:34 “A new commandment I give to you, that you love oneanother, just like I have loved you; that you also love one another.”
Jesus was dismayed by all the squabbling and arguing over the commandments andwhich was more important and what they should do to get into Heaven. Hetold them, pure and simple. Just love one another.

4. Neither God, nor the Bible, tells anyone to be narrow minded or tocause harm.
1 Peter 2:15 “For this is the will of God, that by doing goodyou should put to silence the ignorance of foolish people.” Jesus wasasked many times to lead his people in revolt against the Romans. Hisresponse was always the same. You have to lead by example and do well. Violence is not the answer.

5. Neither God, nor the Bible, tells anyone to pass judgment onanyone else, for any reason.
Romans 14:10 “But you, why do you judge your brother? Or youagain, why do you regard your brother with contempt? For we will all standbefore the judgment seat of God. “
Jesus never asked anyone to judge anyone for any reason. It was not ourbusiness to be judgmental, or to pass a judgment on anyone. That wasGod's prerogative, not for man.

I take the time to proselytize using Bible quotes because I want to point outto the Evangelicals, and more importantly, those who might believe they aretruly righteous and just, that the Bible says many things. But peoplehave the free will (which apparently was given to them by God) to chose whichversus to hold dear and which verses to take literally. And there is moregood in the book than evil.

So why the hell to they go out of their way to find the worst possible thingsin that entire book and use it to pass judgment on everyone and anyone who doesnot adhere to their narrow minded beliefs?”

Yes,sure, they’ve had a track record of 2,000 years of intolerance anddiscrimination and they see the elimination of this faith based bigotry andinequality as a reaffirmation of their dominance, their insistence in rulingover every aspect of human life, from the food you eat to where you insert yourpenis; a real threat to their dominance…that is why they predict the end of theworld…and they are right, the end of their world is coming.

At the time when the first of the major corporations startedto grant protection and equal rights to blacks it was a scandal. When thisbegan to spread like a wildfire they eventually abandoned their insistence inrace discrimination although a lot of these supposedly Christian people stillharbor very strong racism, hidden and untold until now that we had our firstBlack American President.

Influential black leaders in the state said today theywere stunned by comments of Gov. Chris Christie that civil rights pioneers ofthe 1950's and 60's would have gladly put the rights whey were fighting for to avote, suggested he needed a history lesson.

"The fact of the matter is," he said, "I think people wouldhave been happy to have a referendum on civil rights rather than fighting anddying in the streets in the South."

The general public if left to their own devices would neverhave voted in favor of integration back a few decades ago. As New Jersey GovernorChristie affirms that it would have been better to submit civil rightsto a referendum, a vote if you will and we could have avoided the mayhem andloss of life. How terribly ignorant, how horribly misinformed is the Governor.

Much the same is the present day position of LGBT Americans.We have found that in some of the more progressive-liberal areas of the countryfull rights have been granted to them. However, some places like Florida whereI live still lags hopelessly behind and if left to a vote we surely would notsee LGBT Americans given their Constitutional and human rights. It is not goingto happen and it is unthinkable to believe that even if the majority rules theminorities oppressed by them have no rights. That is not what the concept of thelaw is: Majority rules, minority rights.

We are witnessing another of our states about to enactlegislation granting LGBT Americans the right to marry…while Governor Christiesays that it should be put to a vote and if it reaches his desk he will veto it.It is because of attitudes like his and because of the relentless attacks ongay Americans both verbal and physical that we need a Federal Law granting thesame rights to gays as those of the general population.

Itis difficult to wrap one’s mind around the concept of some countries that havetraditionally been machista and even homophobic like Spain and Argentina wheresame sex marriage is now a reality. Brazil followed suit and in some sectionsof Mexico…and I can’t think of a more macho oriented culture than the Mexican.Well, we are poised to have now Washington State enact legislation that willoffer same sex couples equal rights with their heterosexual counterparts.

We now also have most of public opinion in favor ofextending full civil rights to all Americans and as we watch some of the verylarge and influential corporations like American Airlines, Google and Microsoftcoming forward and supporting same sex marriage; one can predict that anational effort is not far away

The day is approaching, we will prevail and thoseChristianist homophobes will just have to foam at the mouth harboring theirfrustration that the United States government refuses to put its seal ofapproval on discrimination or the favoring of one religious belief over another.

Environmentally sensitive areas, waterfront public land,riverfront and all lands above low water mark

The Republicans are not just attacking the middle class…theyare also at war with the nation in their quest to privatize everything. Turningover government lands to developers, mining and oil conglomerates give away istheir goal.

It is clear that they will not stop until they see a highrise condo at the edge of the Grand Canyon and a theme park inside Yosemite…andthe speculation is endless…heavy oil exploration and drilling off California,Florida and the Gulf of Mexico.

The Everglades will finally be completely drained to makeroom for big sugar and all the lakes and rivers that have any valuablewaterfront would be parceled out to developers.

This obsession of theirs has no limits and makes no sense.They hate public ownership so much and government parks and lands that they arewilling to destroy the very environment that makes life possible in this greatland of ours.

And I am not just blowing hot air out of my ass – here isthe new initiative by Florida right wing legislators:

SomeFlorida legislators want to privatize up to 500,000 acres of publiclands along our cherished lakes and rivers. We need to stop them.
Write your state legislatorstoday and urge them to reject HB 1103/SB 1362, the Florida Land Grab Act of2012.
Thislatest scheme by the Florida Legislature to give away our greatest naturaltreasures to private entities is a sneaky maneuver which changes somethingcalled the “ordinary high water line.” Everything below this line belongs toFloridians. The Florida Land Grab Act would change this line from a lake orriver’s high water mark to its low mark¹. This may seem like aninsignificant change, but it could give away as much as a half million acres ofpublic land along our streams, lakes, and rivers.
The biggest reason to opposethe Florida Land Grab Act of 2012 is that it attacks one of our core Floridavalues: protecting and preserving our land and water. This land has alwaysbelonged to the people of Florida: not big developers, timber companies, orcorporate farms. Hunters, hikers, boaters, fishermen, and Floridians from allwalks of life use these lands for recreation. And these lands are important forwildlife and for protecting water quality.
Protect our lakes and riversfrom the Florida Land Grab Act of 2012 and write your state representativestoday. Tell them to stop HB 1103/SB 1362.
Thereare some things that we Floridians own together, and that aren’t for sale: ournatural treasures, our public schools, our roads and infrastructure, and more. Let'skeep it that way.

Today, the Senate of the State of Washington went ahead andvoted to approve SB 6239 by a vote of 28-21 which positions the state to be justa few days away from becoming the eighth State to extend Marriage Equality forsame sex Americans. A companion bill in the State House of Representatives (HB2516) is also expected to pass by a comfortable margin and the best part isthat the Governor of that state chris Gregoire has indicated that she will indeedsign the bill once it arrives on her desk
