YOU DRIVE YOUR CHILD TO SCHOOL IN THE MORNING AND THE NEXT DAY THEY HAND HIM OR HER OVER TO YOU IN A BODY BAG.
Emily Parker, one of the victims and her father.
What is wrong with us? Why does this happen? Where are our brains?
This society’s preoccupation with firearms and the associated violence is at the root of the problem if you ask me…I know, you didn’t ask me. But consider this: Why would the mother of the attacker keep so many fire arms?
What was she thinking? No, the blame is not hers alone but some of it may be inextricably linked to this “survivalist, end of times” mentality that lives within a society based on a wild West environment You know they are out there, those survivalists, they hoard food and guns for what would presumably be one major conflagration of unknown origin. It has been reported that she subscribed to some of these far out survivalist publications.
Is this avoidable altogether? Perhaps it isn’t…mental illness can be treacherous and unpredictable; but at times some conditions are treatable with either counseling or medication. But then again, as a society, we are so stingy that to spend our tax dollars on some maladjusted, awkward kid would be unthinkable.
The money this attacker’s mother spent on all those firearms would have been put to better use to pay for professional help for her son.
Did this happen because as some of these religious fanatics put it “America has turned away from God”? No, it did not and no, it has not…Fischer and Huckabee, all trying to score points for their delusional theory that prayer solves all problems all the while counting on a great number of people who believe prayer makes a difference to send them their money. It is a guilt trip, a more than familiar approach to any tragedy and it should not be used as a tool for gaining church adherence or realize riches from it.
