New Jersey Governor Christ
Christie
One
by one, foreign countries and a few the States also recognize same sex marriage
and protection against homophobia
It has to be very frustrating for those homophobic
Christianists to see their evil little world crumble one piece at a time. Yes,
sure, they’ve had a track record of 2,000 years of intolerance and
discrimination and they see the elimination of this faith based bigotry and
inequality as a reaffirmation of their dominance, their insistence in ruling
over every aspect of human life, from the food you eat to where you insert your
penis; a real threat to their dominance…that is why they predict the end of the
world…and they are right, the end of their world is coming.
At the time when the first of the major corporations started
to grant protection and equal rights to blacks it was a scandal. When this
began to spread like a wildfire they eventually abandoned their insistence in
race discrimination although a lot of these supposedly Christian people still
harbor very strong racism, hidden and untold until now that we had our first
Black American President.
Influential black leaders in the state said today they
were stunned by comments of Gov. Chris Christie that civil rights pioneers of
the 1950's and 60's would have gladly put the rights whey were fighting for to a
vote, suggested he needed a history lesson.
"The fact of the matter is," he said, "I think people would
have been happy to have a referendum on civil rights rather than fighting and
dying in the streets in the South."
The general public if left to their own devices would never
have voted in favor of integration back a few decades ago. As New Jersey Governor
Christie affirms that it would have been better to submit civil rights
to a referendum, a vote if you will and we could have avoided the mayhem and
loss of life. How terribly ignorant, how horribly misinformed is the Governor.
Much the same is the present day position of LGBT Americans.
We have found that in some of the more progressive-liberal areas of the country
full rights have been granted to them. However, some places like Florida where
I live still lags hopelessly behind and if left to a vote we surely would not
see LGBT Americans given their Constitutional and human rights. It is not going
to happen and it is unthinkable to believe that even if the majority rules the
minorities oppressed by them have no rights. That is not what the concept of the
law is: Majority rules, minority rights.
We are witnessing another of our states about to enact
legislation granting LGBT Americans the right to marry…while Governor Christie
says that it should be put to a vote and if it reaches his desk he will veto it.
It is because of attitudes like his and because of the relentless attacks on
gay Americans both verbal and physical that we need a Federal Law granting the
same rights to gays as those of the general population.

It
is difficult to wrap one’s mind around the concept of some countries that have
traditionally been machista and even homophobic like Spain and Argentina where
same sex marriage is now a reality. Brazil followed suit and in some sections
of Mexico…and I can’t think of a more macho oriented culture than the Mexican.
Well, we are poised to have now Washington State enact legislation that will
offer same sex couples equal rights with their heterosexual counterparts.
We now also have most of public opinion in favor of
extending full civil rights to all Americans and as we watch some of the very
large and influential corporations like American Airlines, Google and Microsoft
coming forward and supporting same sex marriage; one can predict that a
national effort is not far away
The day is approaching, we will prevail and those
Christianist homophobes will just have to foam at the mouth harboring their
frustration that the United States government refuses to put its seal of
approval on discrimination or the favoring of one religious belief over another.

Now I ask you, if JERSEY-ness weren't the current flavor of the month, would anyone really be taking this jerk Christie seriously as a future Republican Presidential candidate ? In fact, if the Republicans are to save their withering party, they need to get off this kick they've had over the past 3 decades, of raising minimally enlightened celebrity types to political prominence ! Reagan, Dubya, Schwarzenegger, Thompson, Palin , ect... The list is near endless !
