July 4th, 1987 fell on a Saturday and it had been barely a month since I moved to my new house. All of my friends wanted to have a housewarming party and I started to like the idea only I suggested it would be more fun to have a pool party that would run into the evening and then it would be a 4th of July celebration complete with the fireworks. The fireworks were provided courtesy of the city of Coral Gables since the park where the fireworks display was located is only three blocks away from my house and the best part was that it was free.

That year, for some reason, the city of Coral Gables decided to put on a spectacular fireworks display with the laser beam lights and it must have cost them an arm and a leg. It has not been duplicated since…I think the cost must have been the discouraging issue.

That also coincided with the closing of a very infamous bar on South River Drive named “13 Buttons”. The bar closed on Friday and my party was the following day. I was one of the regulars at that bar and got to know some of the waiters and servers as well as cleaning a couple of hundred crotches in the back room.

I hired two of the bartenders from 13 Buttons who were now unemployed and also some of the better looking clientele. I also had a few people from Cactus and almost all the employees who worked for 1235 in Miami Beach; which is the club that started the Miami Beach club revolution. Back when Miami Beach was desolate and full of old timers this club used to be the life of Washington Avenue. The club changed its name later on to Deco's and Amnesia but 1235 was definitely "The Club" back then. The 1235 opened at 10:00 pm. so that my party started at 3 and that is the reason most of the guys were there.

HERE ARE SOME OF THE HIGHLIGHTS; AND WHAT SOME OF THE GUYS ACTUALLY LOOKED LIKE:
