Truly remarkable natural phenomena leaves humans speculating
They are the prophets of doom, the far out fringe of the scientific community; the disenfranchised purveyors of faith. It is not difficult to find among these the proponents of a world-wide calamity that would kill millions of people if not wipe out humanity entirely. Curiously, some of these also hold other far out ideas like conspiracy theories: The second gun in the Kennedy assassination; the Atlantis civilization, the secret plot to subdue and enslave America by adding FLOURIDE to the water supply; the second coming of Christ, the apocalypse, the end of times to be December 21st , 2012 and many other nonsensical crap.
With the advent of this spanking new constellation that has this impossible if ridiculous name: Ophiuchus?; we are also hearing rumblings and rumors, theories and opinions about the shifting of the magnetic fields and the tilting of our little blue marble Earth.
Leave to the far out fringe of our brethren to conjure up yet another doomsday scenario: that in which the poles suddenly shift causing catastrophic destruction because of the shifting of the earth’s crust. They cite the evidence in ancient rocks that suggest a change in the magnetic fields.
“The cataclysmic pole shift hypothesis is the conjecture that there have been rapid shifts in the relative positions of the modern-day geographic locations of the poles and the axis of rotation of a planet. For the Earth, such a dynamic change could create calamities such as floods and tectonic events.[1] This type of event would occur if the physical poles had been or would be suddenly shifted with respect to the underlying surface over a geologically short time frame” (Wikipedia)
The truth of the matter is, and according to reliable scientific evidence that this shift has happened not once but several times during the 4.5 million years of our earth’s life. What these fanatics don’t tell you is that the shift didn’t happen suddenly or violently but over a span of centuries if not millennia. There are evidences that the North Pole was at one time or another in different locations. Based on his own research, Charles Hapgood argued that each shift took approximately 5,000 years, followed by 20,000- to 30,000-year periods with no polar movements. Also, in his calculations, the area of movement never covered more than 40 degrees. Hapgood's examples of recent locations for the North Pole include Hudson Bay (60˚N, 73˚W) , the Atlantic Ocean between Iceland and Norway (72˚N, 10˚E) and Yukon (63˚N, 135˚W).*
Not only do we have the religious community scaring the shit out of us with their fire and brimstone crap but we also have pseudo-scientists get into the act and making predictions such as the Readings of Edgar Cayce (1)
POLE SHIFT VS. POLE REVERSAL
“A pole shift is sometimes confused with a pole reversal, in which the magnetic poles switch places, so that north becomes south and vice-versa. From studying the magnetism of ancient rocks, scientists have learned that pole reversals have occurred at irregular intervals throughout the Earth's history, on average about once every 300,000 years. The last was about 780,000 years ago. According to University of California professor Gary Glatzmaier, who has modeled the phenomenon with a supercomputer, pole reversals are the result of the movement of molten iron in the Earth's outer core, which can cause twists in the planet's magnetic field. Pole reversals take place over thousands of years, during which time magnetic poles can show up in strange places — the magnetic north pole, for example, might suddenly show up on the island of Tahiti in the Pacific. Recently, some have pointed to magnetic field disturbances an area known as the South Atlantic Anomaly as a possible sign of an upcoming pole reversal — which conceivably could even occur in 2012, to the likely delight of apocalyptic believers — though scientists warn that it is not likely. If a pole reversal did happen, according to Stanford University geophysicist Norm Sleep, it might cause some strange phenomena. Auroras would be visible at the equator instead of the poles, compasses would cease to be reliable, and radio transmissions would be adversely effected. Cosmic rays might pierce the Earth's atmosphere more easily. Overall, though, life would still go on.” (2)
Because the Mayan calendar ends on that particular day (December 21st, 2012) the proponents of the doomsday or end of times scenario have gone all out in their alarmist endeavor. We may yet see situations like Jim Jones’ Guyana mass suicide…happening all over the fucking place.
We will probably see a great number of “faithful” crowd their churches and temples to the rafters on that particular day to await their apocalypse. It really is sad that people actually get so blinded by insecurity that they will seek totally baseless and unscientific conjectures…Off they go into those monuments to ignorance and superstition we call churches.
The green line marks the spin axis of the Earth, tilted 23º
There are many of these doomsday types…one I looked into was this website called Divulgence.net. It goes on for page after page with breathless warnings of Doom and Cover-ups. From what I have read, it appears the author is claiming that solar activity has caused the polar ice to melt, tilting the Earth an additional 26 degrees, moving the positions of sunrise, changing weather patterns, and so on.
Scientists propose that such an event like this can happen silently rather than a catastrophic sudden change. A 2000 mile shift would not be felt any more than you can feel the rotation of the earth. The earth rotates nearly 25,000 miles every day. About 1038 miles every hour and you cannot feel a 2000 mile change in the axis any more than you can feel the earth rotate or orbit the sun.
So, any prophets of doom out there, take your tongue and if you can reach, insert it where the sun don’t shine, because no matter what happens, if there is a cataclysm you will perish along with the rest of us…you are not “SAVED” so you might as well bend over and kiss your ass goodbye.
Heard at a local watering hole of ill repute a customer coming on to a lady of easy virtue: “Hi, baby, I’m an Ophiucus, what are you?”
Lady: “Oh, I’m sorry…is that like a Eunuch? Listen buster, I don’t know what you are into, but I don’t do anything kinky…the going rate is $100 per hour.”
