CREDIT CARDS AND ATMs DON’T WORK, GROCERY STORES ARE EMPTY, NOBODY ACCEPTS CHECKS EITHER…WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO NOW?

That gold you bought when Glenn Beck and Fox were scaring you to death because they said that an economic crisis was going to do away with your wealth? Well it simply isn’t worth one fourth of what you actually paid…that is if you can find somebody who will buy it.

So you have good credit…after all you have millions in the bank and you go to the bank to use the ATM and it no longer works. Your bank is still open but they had a run on it last week…all the deposits were withdrawn…the bank had to close its doors and the government put a moratorium on all withdrawals.

So then you resort to your credit card…try to buy some groceries…wait, there is still one grocery store that has not been looted…you go, pick up some meat, some stale bread and a few cans…no milk or fresh vegetables since trucks are not delivering these days…you go to the cashier and you try to use your credit card…you are out of luck… credit cards are no longer accepted anywhere.

You think you are going to go crazy…what is one to do? You are now in worse shape than those homeless people you saw living in the underpass on your way to the store. But you are not used to such inconveniences, after all, you are rich and you are a Republican for crying out loud…this can’t be happening in America…it shouldn’t be happening to you.

Then you realize that you are one of the last ones to be affected by the crisis…everyone else has been suffering for years…first it was the jobs lost…most of which went overseas in what the Republicans thought would be a great deal for business…why not? Take the jobs in manufacturing and communications and give them to Pakistanis or Indians…they will work for much less.

Then the manufacturing centers began closing, systematically and at a steady pace…it started during the Reagan years…went on as the government was even providing incentives for companies to shut down their manufacturing of goods and setting up shop elsewhere abroad.

Your maid didn’t show up because there is no public transportation and she has children but there is no school because the schools had to close due to a budget crisis. Your gardener has been sent back to Guatemala and you really don’t even know how to start your lawn mower. The security gates in your gated private and secure community don’t work either because there are no security guards there now…they don’t want to risk their lives for minimum wage. The barriers don’t go up and down anymore…they have been damaged.

All the food in your freezer has spoiled because of the blackouts that now last more than 12 hours. The water only comes about two hours each day and it is brown and brackish. You sit in your back porch and towards the horizon you see that there are fires burning near downtown...all the stores being looted and no firemen or police to prevent it.

But at least you got a great deal of relief from Bush when he cut your taxes…you were able to keep almost all of it…why with the help of your clever accountant and all the loopholes he found for you the amounts you paid all those years was almost laughable…laughing all the way to the bank you went…and now…you are crying coming back from the bank…give me a fucking break you insensitive, selfish Republican fat cat.

WE WANT TO TAKE OUR COUNTRY BACK

“THEY ARE TAKING AWAY MY AMERICA”

It was last year during one of those now infamous TOWN HALL MEETINGS where the elected representative wanted to meet with people in his district and have a meaningful exchange of ideas and feedback from his constituents that this woman in the back of the room rose and tearfully went into a diatribe about how she was afraid and her voice cracking with anguish and pain declared “they are taking away my America”

I will not forget that although I have forgotten which Town Hall meeting it was and exactly when it happened because there have been so many others just like that encounter that it is all melding together into one big, incoherent message that resonates with Teahadists and which Republicans are not willing to repudiate.

It is one of the many askew and repugnant signs of that old ugly snake raising its head: the snake of racism, intolerance, xenophobia, homophobia and religious fanaticism. Only these Teahadists don’t really know it, they are sadly, too ignorant to realize that this is really the issue as they carry a flag with another snake that reads: “don’t tread on me”

To “take back America” from whom; take it back to where? I think that any of the Tea Baggers would be hard-pressed to answer those two basic questions. It is also one significant point that they want “LESS GOVERNMENT, SMALLER GOVERNMENT OR NO GOVERNMENT AT ALL”, they want “MORE FREEDOM”. And another one was: ‘LISTEN TO US”

It is then that you have to ask: Less government from what? From having regulations? Less government from interfering in our private sex lives? Less government to offer safety nets? What is it exactly what that less government entails?

You also question this mantra of “SMALLER GOVERNMENT” What in the hell are they talking about? “Government is too big” they will repeat like parrots. But our government is as big as it needs to be if you consider that we are arguably the number one super power in this world of ours. To have anything else is a defeatist, self-destructive outlook that would make our country a third rated, third world nation.

And then there is the beauty: “MORE FREEDOM” More freedom to do what? More freedom for whom? Are you now deprived of some freedom that you have to go out and carry a sign protesting that deprivation? Is there some freedom you stand to lose if your Tea Bag Party does not win? I dare say NO.

I would also like to say to these Teahadists: I will start LISTENING TO YOU when you have SOMETHING TO SAY.

PUT IT IN TERMS THEY CAN UNDERSTAND

THE ECONOMY, THE BAIL OUTS, THE TAX CUTS FOR THE RICH

I don’t have a PHD in Economics but I think that I have a pretty good grasp of the issues and how we got into the mess we are in and most importantly; who caused it.

We must put it in terms that our less fortunate citizens who really don’t have a clue how economics work…mostly those who vote Republican because they are fearful of the word SOCIALISM or because they have been told unfathomable lies they have bought into.

Why don’t we deal first on how we got into the mess we are in? The Republicans and some Democrats thought that by allowing business to run unbridled and had fewer regulations that it would help the free enterprise system…that is called LAISSEZ FAIRE economics. We now know that if left to their own devices we need to have regulations in order to prevent greed to overwhelm the whole process. Greed has no conscience and neither do corporations.

We as a country began to dismantle and to systematically eliminate all the regulations that were in place Since the Stock Market crash of 1929 that drove our country into a very catastrophic economic depression. All these regulations were meant to prevent that kind of thing from happening again…and yet, the smart know-it-all Republican economic geniuses said that we shouldn’t have government interfere and that business had to be given a free reign.

Ironically, those very regulations were the reasons that the economy was prosperous because the unnecessary and unwise risks had not been materialized yet…there was a parallel market, derivatives and very creative schemes that eventually failed.

Because Republicans have always been loyal to the richest of Americans, and many of them were their cronies and even some of the politicians stood to lose quite a lot if these institutions were allowed to fail. They came to the American public with a proposal to bail out Wall Street and the failed banks. No strings attached, no repayment schedule…nada.

Of course this is not just ridiculous but highly unethical because these very people who should be actually prosecuted for their greed and incompetence were given BAIL OUTS…they were rewarded for driving these companies to the ground. Furthermore, a lot of those hard earned tax dollars went to those very people who headed those failed companies and they awarded themselves very hefty bonuses and termination packages that were in my opinion downright immoral. But the Republicans were fine with that…no questions, no regrets, no buyer’s remorse.

Fast forward to the present and we now find the same Republicans advocating that it wasn’t enough to reward these people of great wealth with bonuses and rewards but that they should have the Bush tax cuts extended as well…What are they thinking?
