WHERE FREEDOM OF SPEECH ENDS AND HATE CRIMES BEGIN

DO WE DRAW A LINE IN THE SAND? WHAT CONSTITUTES A HATE CRIME? HOW MUCH FREEDOM OF SPEECH IS COMPROMISED BY HATE SPEECH…OR INCITING A RIOT?

Everyone who has read my blog knows that I have very little use for organized religion. I don’t waste an opportunity to point out some of the flaws and the lies in the Scriptures. I think it is full of fabricated fairy tales and fantasies. It is laden with inconsistencies and ambiguities. It is not even an accurate historical account of events nor is it all applicable in our modern world.

But I know the difference…I know better; I don’t go around burning The Book of Mormon, The Old Testament or the Koran. Why not? Because to do so would be to incite a riot, to piss off some of the more ignorant in society, to cause great pain and discord…just to mention a few. Burning any of these constitutes a hate crime in my book. There is little difference in burning a Koran as it is to paint a swastika outside a Jewish Temple or deface a Baptist Church…or place a bomb that kills innocent little girls because I don’t like the Civil Rights Act.

To allow this low life preacher in Florida to burn the Koran is the same as allowing any other hate crime. If the Republicans and Tea Baggers don’t rise up and condemn such an action; then they are in agreement with these nuts and any casualties derived from this insane hate crime will be on their heads…any blood spilled over this will be staining the hands of those Republicans who are maintaining silence on the issue. We have to denounce it for what it is: A HATE CRIME and furthermore we must arrest this yahoo and charge him with intentions to commit a hate crime before he does any more damage.
