WE ARE WHAT WE ARE AND WE CAN’T CHANGE THAT

REPUBLICANS HAVE BEEN BASHING BLACKS, LATINOS, GAYS, SENIORS, THE UNEMPLOYED AND NOW MUSLIMS

When you come right down to it, who are they left with? They are left with WASPHs, White Anglo-Saxon, Protestant Heterosexuals. That is a pretty narrow base from which to win elections. Sure, they are counting on the unemployment numbers being as high as they are, the number of people dissatisfied with politics and the incumbents…but at the end of the day people tend to vote their conscience.

It is hard to imagine a Latino voting Republican; or a black or a gay person. Even if they are unemployed and have lost their homes, they will probably not buy into the idea that it is Obama’s fault…When you analyze it you realize that unemployment and home foreclosures as well as the debt are a direct result of the policies of the Republicans.

But there is that underlying xenophobia, racism, homophobia and the proclivity to help only the wealthy and the corporations and a lot of people see it…not all Americans are dumb and misinformed…not all get their news from Fox and listen to Rush or Beck and for those whose fears of diversity drive them to believe shit like Obama is a Muslim or wasn’t born in America the scare tactics and the lies will continue to work. These are not going to be a majority; I am hoping to bet on that.

A lot of people are in worse situations that I am in. Yes, I lost my job in 2006 due to outsourcing, I lost a pension and a 401K and although I have not had my house taken away it has lost a substantial value…almost half of what it was worth in 2007. And I am tracing back all the reasons, I am analyzing and thinking as millions of people like myself must be doing…there is nothing to do but think when you are unemployed. Eventually they will come to the same conclusion that I have: The Republicans and Bush are largely to blame for the woes of the middle class.

But that is not the most important reason people will not vote Republican; blacks can’t change their skin nor can Latinos like me change the accident of my birth 90 miles too far south. Gays can’t go back in the closet; seniors are going to be pissed if you take their Social Security and privatize it, Muslims have been living in America relatively free from discrimination up until now. The Muslims are going to find out they are the next target for the bashing done by Republicans-Tea Baggers.

We are what we are...and as distasteful Republicans and Tea Baggers find diversity...it is here to stay and America belongs to everyone.
