WHY STOP THERE? LET US TEST EVERYONE…FACTORY WORKERS, FINANCIAL INSTITUTION CEO’s, THE CLERGY, ALL POLITICIANS.
Isn’t it reasonable to ask everyone to take a drug test rather than attacking a group of helpless, voiceless people? Why do we keep begrudging that poor single mother on welfare the few thousand bucks she gets to feed her children and we don’t even blink when we give billions to the very wealthy in tax cuts and in bail outs that they employ to re-invest in risky business ventures?
Why do Republicans keep insisting on denying extensions of unemployment by stalling it in Congress? Why do they want us to believe that it is Social Security and other programs that help the poor that is bankrupting this country? What they don’t even want to mention is that those unemployed are in that situation because of their failed economic policies. It is no secret that President Bush and Republicans drove this economy to the ground and yet this is an issue they refuse to own, to take responsibility…it is a lot easier to pick on the unemployed or those on welfare.
What has broken the kitty bank is the two wars we are engaged in. One of which was totally unnecessary and they even lied to us and the world to get us into it. What they don’t want to admit is that it is precisely because of the pervasive and thorough elimination of regulations that we got into this economic mess. Furthermore, it is this relaxed and permissive lack of regulations that may have had a direct effect on the oil spill in the Gulf.
Why don’t we say that anyone found with traces of drugs in their system would have their paychecks garnished by the IRS? Why can’t we extend it to the CEOs of corporations and tell them that if they have traces of drugs in their system they will not receive their bonuses and salaries?
I think that it might surprise a lot of people that the percentage of those found with drugs in their system might even be a lot higher for those who are prosperous as opposed to those who are not. Why? Because a CEO has enough dough to burn and cost is no object so that he/she would be able to buy recreational drugs without feeling a financial pinch.
Besides, are we not an equal opportunity drug enforcer country? To do any different would be discriminatory. That my friends is what this asshole Orin Hatch should be pushing, not picking on people on welfare and unemployment.
