VIOLENCE AND CIVIL WAR

NOT TRYING TO SCARE ANYONE, BUT IT IS PLAUSIBLE

I have always criticized the Bush Administration for using 9/11 and the fear that prevailed afterward as a political tool to enact unsavory and unconstitutional practices in our country. Arguably, then President Bush had over 35 impeachable offenses and we saw a veritable erosion of our Constitutional Rights disappear before our very eyes during his time in office.

What seems hard to believe now is how a democratically, legally elected President is getting all these wing-nuts who were in total complicity with Bush and the Republicans then now raising their snake heads and even prescribe civil disobedience and violence.

The surge of a right-wing, radical element in our society and the disruptions they are causing and could further impart on our stability and tranquility is by itself alarming. To think that these people can’t accept a lawfully elected government and would want to change things as they see fit using all extreme methods including violence.

The underlying theme of these militias that are springing up everywhere seems to be uniform: they are training and arming themselves for what they perceive to be an oncoming confrontation with the Federal Government.

And how will these become engaged in such conflict? Very easily, I tell you. Let the economy not improve, let the number of unemployed grow instead of shrink, add in a few more racially motivated laws like the one in Arizona and you will see riots and demonstrations on the part of those affected. Then as a counter force, the militias will go into action. The picture is not pretty and the prospects of thousands of people dying in our streets is a real possibility, not to speak of the total chaos and mayhem this will cause.

Some of us still remember the Watts riots. A situation like that could easily flare up and cause a great deal of damage. Why look at what the death of a rancher in Arizona in what seemed to be a drug related incident, create a whole backlash of racism and the passing of a totally insane law. And there are a great majority of people who agree with it, that is perhaps the saddest and most alarming thing.

“We are the Tea Party and we have come to take our country back” That is the battle cry of these radicals. But I ask: Take the country back to what? To a country devoid of a Federal Government? To the 1950’s? What does taking the country back mean? To me it means that the WASPHs (WHITE ANGLO-SAXON HETEROSEXUALS) mean to continue to have the reins of government and be in the top of the food chain regardless of the change in demographics and the tendency to diversity we have seen in recent decades. The fact remains that very soon the Caucasians will be outnumbered by the blacks and the Latinos and if one is to go by proportionate representation, we could not possible accept a bunch of white haired older white men leading the way; others have to be represented: women, blacks, Latinos and gays and that is a fact of life. We are here and we are Americans. This country is as much ours as it is yours.
