Unknown and underfunded Greene wins primary

Unemployed military veteran Alvin Greene wins South Carolina senate nomination

An unemployed military veteran has stunned Democratic Party bosses by winning the nomination to stand for South Carolina's senate seat – despite not even running a campaign.

After George W. Bush we thought we could not get another politician as incompetent as inarticulate but here comes Alvin Green. This is a clear and sad indication of how askew our democratic system has become; a total unknown, one who didn’t campaign, with less than $114 dollars in the campaign chest and still won the Democratic nomination.

We like to think that just anybody could and should run for office. We have experienced the antics and idiosyncrasies of the likes of Sarah Palin and Rand Paul. What we have not foreseen is someone who is clearly intellectually challenged actually wins as he came out of nowhere.

There are a lot of serious questions raised here. I feel sorry for the guy who is clearly way out of his league and totally clueless as to what he is doing. But the more serious implications are present and it is one that bothers me a lot: Where did he get $10,000 to file for his entering the race if he is unemployed?

Could there be more to this like the Republican Party, which in South Carolina is extremely sneaky and corrupt set this guy up just to prove a point and bring embarrassment to African Americans? This is suspect mainly because a great majority of the votes he obtained were in heavily Republican, upper income, predominantly white precincts.

The Washington Post reports on the mysterious case of Alvin Greene. “Alvin M. Greene never gave a speech during his campaign to become this state's Democratic nominee for Senate. He didn't start a Web site or hire consultants or plant lawn signs. There's only $114 in his campaign bank account, he says, and the only check he ever wrote from it was to cover his filing fee.”

In an interview with Keith Olberman, which was painful and laborious he was asked simple questions and could not or would not answer. One of the questions was about a pending felony and he said he would not comment. Now there is a switch…most politicians wait until they get elected to commit a felony.

  1. Everything about this guy reads "follower" not somebody that would run for the Senate. I do feel bad for him, clearly he's gotten caught up in something, but even more disturbing; what's up with the voters? Do they have one of those open primaries that California just voted into law?
