ABOUT CLASS WARS
The rich think they are entitled
By Richard de Orizaba
It is common knowledge that I am a fag and a rich one. My wealth is not that of Bill Gates but it is impressive by any standard. This is why I can speak from a position of authority about what the rich think, how they think and why they do the things they do. Yet I inherited most of my money and have multiplied it one hundred times over. But if it had not been for my grandparents’ wine vineyards and the wine business I would never have been any more than a very successful journalist.
I was once told that if you were to take away all the money the rich people have today they would manage to make it and be back where they were before in less than ten years. I don’t think that premise is even plausible since there are far too many who inherit their fortunes, those who are born with the proverbial silver spoon in their mouths.
I have a friend who owns a vitamin company. His name is Carlos Arvine and he was telling me that it is not a good idea to give the working class all they ask for nor everything they need. He claims that if you give them too much and they become comfortable; not only would they not work as hard but they would also think of themselves as the ruling oligarchy.
This same friend has photos of himself with Ronald Reagan in his office, is a major contributor to the Republican Party and has his warehouse workers forgo their morning coffee break even if it is against the law to deprive them of such. He is one mean son of a bitch and has been known to fire somebody on the spot for being idle.
I once asked him what the secret of his success was and his answer was: “Well, you know Richard, I get up every morning and think of who I am going to fuck that day”
Enter the LABOR UNIONS; as much as the owners of industry hate these organizations they provide a certain balance and make provisions to level the playing field. Labor unions came into being out of necessity to offset the abuses of the rubber and railroad barons. The ordinary worker of a hundred years ago had no days off, no set rules or working hour limits, no vacation, no minimum wage and a bunch of other things that we now consider fair and normal.
I pay our state and Federal Government my fair share of taxes. I think that they are not really too high as I have more than I can possibly spend in my lifetime unless I incur into excesses and that has never been my way of operating. I will have some luxuries and some comfort, which is what money, is for but I refuse to engage in excesses and in extravagant expenditures. I am not much for designer labels; instead I look for quality and good craftsmanship.
As far as getting tax breaks from the government I am all against it. I am a firm believer that if you give to the rich they will not pass it on down. Reagan’s economic prescription of “TRICKLE DOWN ECONOMICS” just doesn’t work because the rich and the corporations will just hoard it instead of letting it filter down.
As for myself, I don’t believe that giving your employees as much as you can is detrimental, it happens to be in my best interest and I have found that on both sides of the Mexican border people are willing to work for me as I am the best employer in the area. I have excellent health care benefits, good retirement plans, a thirty five hour work week and four weeks paid vacation after working two years.(unheard of outside of the European Union) I also have counselors and human relations specialists who will intercede in an unbiased way on behalf of the employees in the case of a grievance. I have scholarships and day care for their children, and most of all I offer them dignity. It has paid off well. I seldom have an employee leave or resign. When I have a job opening on either side of the border I have trouble with the large number of applicants.
You know what? Several times there have been efforts by unions to come and try to unionize one or more aspects of my operations and I have not even interfered. The employees themselves have rejected it because in reality they have far more than any union can negotiate for them. And if they ever decide to unionize, I will not oppose it. It would be an indicator that I am not being a fair employer and I need to make corrections. It shouldn’t be necessary for me to get slapped across the face and told that I need a union to give my employees what they deserve.
Unfortunately, most rich people and business owners don’t see it that way. We don’t share the same values and can’t seem to see eye to eye as to what is their rightful place in society. Most think that because they are rich they are entitled. They live in self created bubbles, isolated from the realities of the masses and in gated communities that prevent them from hearing any criticism. Their circle of friends and society functions by nature exclude the working stiff and they only come in contact with the waiters or the cleaning people…this is a very sorry position to be in as far as I am concerned.
Globalization is a term used to justify some of the excesses of crossing over to exploit less fortunate people. President Reagan set us on a path that has proven to be destructive and self-defeating. He encouraged businesses to relocate overseas and gave them all kinds of incentives. There were subsidies, tax breaks, and a general consensus that this was the answer to all the woes for capitalists. Of course, it has had some catastrophic effects on our economy and our people. Places that once thrived as manufacturing centers are now wastelands. People who used to work in manufacturing found themselves out of jobs with dignity and benefits to be employed now in meaningless, low paying service positions.
I am a believer that if you are an employer it should not make any difference how you treat and pay your employees based on which side of the border you are located. To close up shop here in America and go to Bangladesh because the labor is so much cheaper there is immoral to me. If you want to do such thing then you should pay those people the equivalent of that which you would have paid in an industrialized country.
Corporations are entities without brains or conscience. The ultimate goal for these and the motivator is profit; profit for the stock holders, a lofty position, and lucrative remuneration for management. We all know that this results in all kinds of inequities that hurt society and eventually will come back to bite us in the ass.
We are seeing a good example of that right now with the Insurance Companies and our Health Care crisis. The Insurance industry operates as a middle man; they are not providers nor do they perform a useful function to society. Their whole reason for being is to make profits and in order to do that they have to deny paying claims, to curtail expenditures and to limit their risk. This is totally unacceptable and in my opinion has to end. I am not going to shed any tears when the insurance companies closed their doors. I might have some empathy for their former employees now looking for new work but make no mistake about it, I shall not feel sorry for the CEO who has to give up his second vacation home in the Hamptons.

Marie Osmond’s poor gay son killed himself
It is tragic and regrettable.
But it is even more regrettable that his mother can’t denounce the fucking Mormon Church for what they made her son do. You can’t go around insulting and humiliating people because you are not interpreting the Scriptures correctly. Here is what Roseanne said:
“Because he had been told how wrong and how sick he was every day of his life by his church and the people in it. Calling that “depression” is a lie!
Yet the Osmonds still talk lovingly about their church, saying nothing about its extremely anti-gay Crusade. Marie also has a gay daughter! Hey, I want her and all the gay kids in the world to know that they are just fine being gay and that they deserve love and respect instead of insults and rebuke! I have gay people in my family and my circle of friends and I am kicking bigot ass and taking names!
That is how it’s done in my religion—(I have my own religion that I made up for myself and it is a great religion that actually works and respects facts and not fantasy!)
Gerald Lund one of the ex church apostles has three gay kids himself.
Yet, even though the people they say they love the most in all of their public displays and speeches (THEIR KIDS AND FAMILY!!) are gay,– their own children, for crying out loud- these people cannot find the Christian decency and compassion within themselves to stop their hypocritical gay bashing!!
How sickening. I know so many Mormon kids who were gay and committed suicide, and I just cannot and will not stay quiet in order to not offend bigots anymore. It is all so terribly depressing.
Marie please don’t talk about how your faith in your church has helped you get through this one! Please get some integrity and tell that church of yours that you will leave it and stop giving it ten percent of your money if they don’t stop trying to destroy your kids’ and all gay people’s civil rights and dreams and hopes!!
G-d is trying to use you for something good and this is your opportunity! Your church is wrong and on the wrong, wrong, wrong side of things! Get as vocal about that as you are about your diet. G-d bless you too, Marie.
Take a hard look at the facts now as you use this very sad time for introspection, healing growth and prayer, and become a strong symbol for loving mothers who make no apologies for hatred against their own kids!

My comment is simply this: If there is a heaven and a hell, the Mormons are going to be the first ones making a long line to enter hell because they should pay for all the misery and hatred they brought on to society. Worse some of that stupid hatred caused some of their children to take their own lives and it is LDS who is responsible for those deaths. Own it you sons of bitches…your religion is a farce, it is fabricated and it is a cult.
Marie can go on denial all she wants until she is blue in the face and it will not change a thing. The fact remains that her son was not killed because he was gay but because her religion is wrong.

A reporter was on a radio show talking about the recent conservative conventions mentioning that "they" want to roll back government and regulation to pre-Teddy Roosevelt days. I happen to be in a history class covering 1865 to the present and wonder if they realize where they're going to fall in the social order they're advocating.
ReplyDeleteYou're preaching a lesson that most capitalists have missed: Social capital is as important as economic capital. Satisfied employees make for "free" salespeople and consumers (depending on product).
