Smoking Presidents
Warren Harding, Franklin Delano Roosevelt, and Lyndon Baines Johnson. Two others, Howard Taft and Dwight Eisenhower quit before becoming President.
Johnson always kept an unopened pack of Marlborough in his front pocket in case he had to push the red button and he said that he would get to smoke at least two before the bombs hit Washington. After he left office he took up the habit once more and his daughters were dismayed but as he explained it to them, he had done his job and done it to the best of his ability; he no longer had to serve as a role model and he was now free to indulge in what little pleasures life had to offer him.
John Fitzgerald Kennedy smoked cigarettes in private but did not want people to know that he smoked. He was photographed smoking cigars on more than one occasion. Many others smoked Cigars or Pipes. Ronald Reagan smoked cigarettes, during much of his earlier film career, but would quit before running for office. George W. Bush smoked cigarettes for many years, but would also quit in the early 90's. President-Elect Barack Obama admits still smoking cigarettes, but it is unclear if he will kick the habit.
It really doesn't matter if a president smokes cigarettes just as long it does not interfere with the nations safety.
Nixon did not smoke while he was at the White House, he quit but he drank heavily particularly during the Watergate hearings. Now I can tell you that his wife Pat was a chain smoker as I can attest having been the waiter at a dinner they attended at Southern Illinois University.
The Smokers:
2. John Adams, 1797-1801 A cigar man
4. James Madison, 1809-17 Also a stogie-lover
6. John Quincy Adams, 1825-29 Yet another cigar man
7. Andrew Jackson, 1829-37 Liked a cigar, but more so chewing tobacco
8. Martin Van Buren, 1837-41 All about the pipe

23. Benjamin Harrison, 1889-93 Cigar
24. Grover Cleveland, 1893-97 Continued to chew
25. William McKinley, 1897-1901 Obsessive secret smoker of cigars behind closed doors
27. William Howard Taft, 1909-13 At 300 hundred pounds he quit cigar smoking when he reached office, which may have resulted in even further weight gain
29. Warren Gamaliel Harding, 1921-23 Cigars
30. Calvin Coolidge, 1923-29 Liked to use cigars as a prop to punctuate political discussions
31. Herbert Clark Hoover, 1929-33 Incessant smoker of high-end cigars
32. Franklin Delano Roosevelt, 1933-45 Finally, a cigarette guy and our first chain smoker president
34. Dwight David Eisenhower, 1953-61 Cigarettes

35. John Fitzgerald Kennedy, 1961-63 Cigars and cigarettes (loved Cubans) and it's reported Jackie O went through 3 packs of Salems a day
36. Lyndon Baines Johnson, 1963-69 Cigars and the occasional rolled cigarette

37. Richard Milhous Nixon, 1969-74 The occasional cigar
38. Gerald Rudolph Ford Jr , 1974-77 Nonstop pipe smoker
42. William Jefferson Clinton, 1993- 2001 Yeah, you know it

Somehow our President just doesn’t look Presidential with a cigarette hanging from his mouth.

2010 SUPERBOWL WIN BELONGS TO NEW ORLEANS
The clear underdogs; the New Orleans SAINTS in a surprise and exciting game came from behind when they were trailing 10-0, fought earnestly and defeated the Indianapolis COLTS in what most sports fans describe as a shock upset at the Super Bowl last night, they went on to win their first ever title in the NFL league. The Saints upset the Colts 31-17 in front of a stadium crowded to capacity, over 100 million viewers on TV in the US and millions more across the world.
The Colts Peyton Manning was outplayed by Drew Brees, the quarterback for the Saints. Brees was also named the games’ most valuable player.
It has been thought that throughout their 43 year history, that the Saints have almost been an embarrassment in the NFL, though they have certainly proved their doubters wrong now. But their following and loyalty from their fans never wavered. The people of New Orleans, battered by Katrina are very much in sync with their team because they too think of themselves as the underdogs.
It was a huge boost to the people of New Orleans who have struggled to pick up the city since the destructive force of Hurricane Katrina in 2005. They will be partying big time in New Orleans for some time to come!
Before the Game President Obama, who was hosting a Super Bowl watching party, was asked for his opinion as to how the game would go. His thoughts were that although the Colts were the more resilient side, he was partial for the Saints to gain victory.
