Some Republicans are so stupid that they are too stupid to realize they are stupid
The never ending argument against conservatism
I have been posing this argument ever since I can remember. Over fifty years ago, when I was just an adolescent I still held these views. I was using my common sense and my intuition but I still have to be proven wrong fifty some odd years later.
My contention then was that we had a dysfunctional society and an inept government full of corruption and greed. It was that corruption and greed that motivated politicians to run for office just for the purpose of enriching themselves. It came to a ridiculous and unreal ending. The people were so fed up with the system that milked the government dry and placed them in a situation where they could never get ahead that they rebelled. It was the conservatives and the Republican counterparts that created the nightmare we now have in my country even fifty years later.
In America it is getting closer to that dysfunctional model. We see a political system that is plagued with irregularities and a very dangerous tilt in favor of the rich and the big corporations. As if this wasn’t bad enough, we now have a new decision by the Supreme Court that allows corporations to spend unlimited amounts of money on political campaigns. In my mind, this only contributes to the reinforcement of an oligarchy, a system where only the very rich have it easy and pleasant while the middle class and the poor struggle to make ends meet.
It was bad enough that anyone trying to start a new business found out soon enough that they could not compete with the big corporations. The system is also structured in such a way to make it very difficult for anyone to leave a job and start a business. We all know that you can’t get rich simply by working for a living. The spirit of free enterprise and ingenuity is moribund in America due to the present business climate.
It is my opinion that America does not have a working democracy any longer. If your vote does not count, if you vote for a person to go and represent you in Washington and that person turns around and sells himself or herself to the highest lobbyist bidder in order to represent special interests and not the interests of the constituents who sent him/her there then we don’t really have a democracy, now do we?
I also hold very dear the concept that in order for things to improve there has to be change. There has to be a certain amount of change to correct the problems and to institute the much needed alterations to make society function. This is why conservatism is invalid, this is why no country that wants to forge ahead can afford to cling to the status quo and just stand by and allow a laissez faire environment that does not allow progress. That is why we the “liberals” are called PROGRESSIVES. And who does not want PROGRESS? The answer is the very rich and the corporations or the Evangelical fundamentalists, who are just happy to see a theocracy that does not allow any repudiation of the prudish Puritanism and does not tolerate anyone or anything that deviates from their erroneous interpretation of the Scriptures.

Indeed, a certain degree of change is a must... That's the only constant, to say it in a manner, haha.
ReplyDeleteSome of that is already being copied here in Mexico. Large corporations and the mass media are no longer tied to the law, because they lobby for themselves through a fool-proof method: Blackmail.
With all respect, I'm catholic and gay, and the intermission of the church in politics is more than evident, although our Constitution expressly forbids it...
They lobby against gay marriage, saying that the Constitution is meant to protect family (article 4)... But that old piece of parchment does not define "family", and it leaves to the States the power to regulate civil status (Article 121); moreover, if a State regulates some kind of civil-status, it must be recognised in all the remaining States... So, if Federal District says a man can marry a man, all the States must uphold that marriage to be valid... So, my dear conservative Pueblans, I've to say I love Constitution more than ever!!! xD
Greetings, hugs and kisses from Puebla, Mexico ;)
