More on the spin and yesterday’s election results

I don’t give a rat’s ass what you think of me personally. I really don’t care if you think I am going to hell or that what I do is an abomination. I am not seeking your validation.

Yesterday’s election results just proves that you can’t submit to a vote the question of civil rights. The defeat in Vermont is more significant than the defeat in New York’s 23rd. Certainly this was not a referendum on President Obama or his policies, although the far right would like for you to think so.

Because I am so convinced of the righteousness of my ideology, I don’t have to go around looking for support from others, trying to show the whole world that I am right and you are wrong. But what I will not tolerate is for you to either take away my rights or if I already have rights for you to take them away to show that your ideology is valid either by means of a vote or legislation borne out of hatred and religious fanaticism.

It is like the Jehovah’s Witnesses; not long ago they were considered a fringe radical fanatical group. In many ways, they still are. But this is the reason they have to go out every day and proselytize. They have to find validation some way for their flawed ideology. They must get converts and grow as an organization.

The “Tea baggers” and wing nuts are much the same because they are considered by most of society to be on the fringe, a fanatical group, a bunch of people who either are very gullible and believe any lies the Republicans will tell them or they are so stupid that they can accept to go out and picket, demonstrate and interrupt our democratic course. Why is this necessary? Again, because they are seeking validation, they need to show that their ideology is acceptable and preferable.

It is a peculiar thing that extremism also brings with it militancy. We have seen two governors from the Republican side elected and it was no doubt a defeat for progressives. But how could this be possible? It is simple: the ones who came out and voted and were so moved by the need for change just didn’t come out and vote. The wing nuts and fanatical elements did come out and were energized by the likes of Palin and Limbaugh. This is just an example of militancy by their ultra-right base.

Why then do we see terrorists strap bombs to themselves and blow them up in crowded markets, or fly airplanes into buildings? It is militancy, it is the need for validation, the passion and obstinacy they have is compatible with their flawed ideas. These ideas are rejected by most people, so they have to make a splash, bring chaos, misery and terror to those who don’t share their views.

But to me, this is only the beginning of a culture war. It is the precursor of what is to come. I predict that the Republican Party will fracture. The extreme right is going to demand total adherence to their insane ideas and will reject those who are more reasonable and see the flaw in their ideology. After all it is based on lies, misconceptions and a lot of frustration as well as stupidity and lack of education. The New York 23rd Congressional District race is just a sampler of things to come.

That does not mean that we progressives, middle of the road Democrats as well as Moderate Republicans don’t have anything to worry about. After all, it was a similar situation that gave rise to the Third Reich and Hitler. And you can’t find any ideology more flawed than that of racial purity and white supremacy. But look at what it created and the consequences it brought.

I say, if these fringe ultra conservatives insist on changing America to their model, we are in deep shit trouble if they succeed. I for one don’t think that I like to see a theocracy or the elimination of all social programs. I am sure that most people would not agree to have a welfare system for the very rich and the corporations. I basically disagree that government is the problem, not the solution and most of all, I am a firm believer that TRICKLE DOWN ECONOMICS IS BULL SHIT.
