The Senate confirmed today Sonia Sotomayor’s nomination to the Supreme Court in a vote of 68 in favor and 31 opposed, all those casting the op
posing votes were Republicans. Only a handful of Republicans broke rank and voted in favor of her nomination. Those who did were for the most part retiring from their jobs.
I would like to extend my personal best wishes and to congratulate this fine example of jurisprudence excellence and the fact that she is part of our community makes us doubly proud. However, this vote against her is not going to go unnoticed and we Latinos are not going to forget. We are for the most part not vindictive but we do not have short memories and come voting time at the next elections we are going to let those who voted against her not because she lacked qualifications but because she was simply an Obama nominee, these politicians will receive the full wrath of Latino voter rejection. You have been warned.
I personally can never forget how those good old boys on the top always erected that wall or that glass ceiling when I was in the job pool. I was fine while I waited on tables or cleaned floors. Once I got a college degree and competed for more prestigious positions, I found that there were racist barriers. I will not forget nor will I forgive. I am bitter as hell for their racism and any small accomplishment by any Latino to debunk and erase these lines of discrimination are met with a resounding approval from me and millions of Latinos like me.
